The Dragon Prince Season 4 Episode 3

Hi Everyone and welcome to Fitz Sci-Fi and Fantasy, today I'm going to give you my review of Season 4 episode 3 of the Dragon Prince, episode entitled Breathtaking. Please note there are spoilers ahead so if you haven't seen it then watch it first.

The episode opens with Callum & Rayla talking. Rayla has come back but Callum doesn't seem to be happy about it. He is still hurt by her leaving a couple of years prior. She is happy to see him. They sit in silence for a while until Callum sleeps. she talks to herself that she had become obsessed with revenge searching for Viren and she risked losing the best thing that she ever had, Callum. She leaves through the window as he sleeps.

King Ezren is at the camp site outside the castle waiting for the Dragon Queen to arrive with Zym. Callum was suppose to be there to welcome the queen with a prismatic shablow. Opeli is concerned about the gift ceremony. Especially holding it in the valley of the Graves, were so many great humans and some of whom died at their hands is offensive. Ezren said that's the point, there's a history and that they are trying to get past that, to build a bright future. She warns him that there is a lot of anger. The Dragon queen Zubeia arrives with Zym.

Claudia and Terry talk just outside the entrance of the top of the mountain. Claudia is about to enter and tells Terry to wait outside and watch for the dragon. She enters the mountain and discovers a underground entrance. Claudia is in a Cavern and she sees it is full of treasure and uses her staff to find Virens staff which makes it glow. As she is about to reach the staff, she is stopped by Ibis. They begin to fight by using their powers.

Ibis fly's away with the staff. Claudia uses Fang Juice and turns herself into a snake and goes after him. They fight again and he freezes her lower snake body. He says he is going to destroy the staff. Claudia breaks free and they both fight again. Claude is stabbed in the leg, and falls down the stairs into the Dragon Queens chambers. Ibis says he is not a killer but if she seeks to return the staff to its true owner, she poses a greater danger to the world than he could allow, she must die. As Ibis is about to kill Claudia with his magic he is stabbed by Terry. Terry tells Claudia that he had to kill him as he couldn't let him hurt her. Ibis uses the last of his powers. With his last breath he sends a warning to the queen.

Callum wakes up and suddenly realizes he is late for the ceremony. He arrives and does his display, to everyone's delight. At the valley of the graves we see King Ezrin and the queen with the people. He offers the queen a painting as a gift of hope and friendship. He removes the cover and sees the Dragon queen in the painting, but there is a tear were the queens head should be. Everyone is shocked.

Ezren says he had a speech he was going to say about peace, love and hope. But he thinks he left out something. He ignored something that was true. They are angry. He is angry and has been hurt, he's father was killed when he was nine as was his mother when he was even younger. They all want peace and all want love but violence tests them and in a twisted way converts them to its cause, because pain and loss feels so terrible inside. How do they stop the cycle of violence, loss, pain, he wants to shout stop, but it won't work. He thinks about a positive vision, a faith they can all share, that they might build a future of together and hope. A future were they can be safe with each other. It's not that easy or simple, because people are still hurting, they can'tignore that our pretend it will go away. Some how they have to hold it all in their hearts at the same time. They have to acknowledge the weight of the pain and loss. But open their eyes and allow themselves to hope and maybe forgive and love again.

They have to give today's kids a chance to inherit a future filled with peace. To give them this they have to hold pain and love in their hearts at the same time. (Zym and Ezren hug each other) They were planning on some dance music during the festivities, but he doesn't know if it feels right anymore.

Corvus says if the king allows a piece he has written, that he'd like to share. The king agrees and Corvus plays a musical piece, it's called "A song of love and loss"

After the music has stopped, the queen says that Ezren is a wise and special boy, when he spoke it was as though he could see her own heart & her pain. The truth of him seeing that somehow made it feel less. It felt like healing.

Rayla shows up and greets Ezren. Ezren hugs her and tells her that they missed her.

Sudden a cloud and wind appears, an image of Ibis appears. He says in a warning above the valley of the graves that the staff of Ziard had been stolen. It could only mean one thing, The fallen star has returned.

This was a great episode, as Ezren recounts the hurt and pain that everyone has experienced we see as he speaks Claudia and Ibis fight, just to make a point about the violence that has been going on for decades if not centuries. The speech was powerful even for someone so young and shows his maturity in some way. At first he wanted what every kid wants a bit of fun with Zym and the queen when they arrived, and suddenly confronted with the damaged picture showing that hatred still lingers. A great speech and a great episode.
