The Dragon Prince Season 4 Episode 1 Review Rebirthday

Today I'm going to give you my review of Season 4 episode 1 of the Dragon Prince, episode entitled Rebirthing. Please note there are spoilers ahead so if you haven't seen it then watch it first.

We discover that 2 years have passed since the final battle at the end of Season 3. All appears well in Katolis and Xadia. At the start of the episode we see that Claudia has brought back her father Viren to life with the help of Aavaros. Her fathers body was cocooned in a Chrysalis as Claudia had to travel around Xadia to get magical objects in order to bring him to life. We discover that Viren is only alive temporarily for only 30 days until they release Aavaros from his imprisonment, which he doesn't know where but the creature in the Chrysalis does so they will have to wait until in comes out of the cocoon. We also discover that Claudia has a boyfriend named Terry who is an elf. Which doesn't please Viren at all.

At the palace in Katolis we see that Callum has been made High Mage or as Soren jokingly calls him Step-Mage. We see him now in Virens office looking at the runes around the mirror that Viren was trying to figure out what they meant. We discover later that Amayla discovered a book called the Tome of Translation were it should be able to help him translate the runes.

He is called to the Throne room for a council meeting with Corvus, Opeli, Soren and the baker in attendance. Followed by King Ezren and his pet Bait. Ezren reveals that the Dragon Queen will be visiting Katolis along with Zym. Opeli is obviously concerned as to how the people will react to the Dragon Queens arrival. But Ezren assures her the the Dragon Queen is Loving, Caring and fun. Callum jokes that she only eats three humans a day so it's a small price to pay for peace. The others look at him and Ezren just smiles and shakes his head.

We then move to Janai, Amaya and Commander Gren on horse back running through the fields and forest on a secret mission. Janai tells Amaya that the mission is on a need to know only. They arrive at their destination, Janai takes Commander Gren with her and leaves Amaya behind who seems to think they are not alone. We then see three elves with what looks like Flame whips and approaches Amaya to then thinking she is being attacked, attacks them first. When Janai and Commander Gren arrives back, Janai sees Amaya fight with the elves. Janais is upset as Amaya says that they had ambushed her, but Janai said that they were not ambushing her, they were dancers and what they had in their hands weren't whips they were Flame Ribbons used in the dance. Amaya was shocked and apologizes to the dancers. Janai says that the dance they do is a traditional sunfire elf ceremony. We then see Janai get on one knee before Amaya and signs in sign language for her to marry her and she accepts.

Back at the palace before Callum had entered the council meeting Soren, Opeli and Corvus were discussing something in relation to him when he comes in but they keep quite. Callum gets suspicious and afterwards approaches Soren to find out what was going on. thinking that Ezrens life is in danger he suddenly uses his power to fly into the throne room as he sees the light going out. As he lands on the balcony he enters the throne room only to realize that it was a surprise party for him. He is both surprised and happy.

As the others celebrate Callum disappears to the balcony and Ezren sees him and follows him out. Callum said that it doesn't feel like his birthday anymore, it just reminds him of the day Rayla left. He still loves her and Ezren reassures him that she is still alive out there. The episode ends.

This has been a fun, lighthearted first episode for the start of the season and as we know as usual things will get darker. It's good to finally have The Dragon Prince back on our screens as it felt like forever since season 3. The animation is the same as before, beautifully done, and a well written episode. Both Callum and King Ezren have matured somewhat over the two years and to see that the humans and elves have been getting on together during the two years. It'll be interesting to know why Rayla has left and I'm sure we will find out in the coming episodes.
